Brand studio fornames, packaging, identities and websites
We are three designers in a Bangsar shophouse. We name small Malaysian companies, draw their marks and fold them into jars, boxes and bags that hold their own on a crowded shelf.

Sambal Opah
Puan Rohani made sambal in Klang for 30 years and sold it in plain jars with a photocopied sticker. Her grandson wanted it on supermarket shelves without losing the kitchen it came from.

Naming
Kept her name. Dropped 'Homemade' and 'Premium'.
Identity
A hand-cut wordmark and one red, measured off the chilli.
Packaging
3 jar sizes, a heat scale on the lid, a gift box with no glue.
Shelf test
Printed mock-ups in 4 kedai runcit before we signed off.
Print
Labels on a local digital press, runs of 500 to 5,000.
Nine weeks from first call to the first pallet. Now on the shelf in 46 stores across the Klang Valley.

Most clients start with one and come back for the next. The same three people work on every part, so nothing is lost between the logo and the box.

Naming
We find a name you can say at a pasar, spell over the phone and register with SSM and MyIPO. You get a shortlist of 5, each checked for domains and trademarks.

Identity
A mark, a wordmark, colours and type that work on a 2 cm sticker and a 6 m hoarding. Drawn here, not bought from a library.

Packaging
Jars, boxes, bags, sleeves and labels. We draw the die-lines, print real mock-ups and test them on a real shelf before anything goes to press.

How a brief becomes a box
Read it like a die-line: solid lines are cuts, dashed lines are folds. Eight weeks for a typical identity and first pack.
- 01Week 1
Listen
We spend a morning in your shop, kitchen or office. You tell us who buys, where it sits and what it costs. We write it up in two pages you sign off.
- 02Weeks 2-4
Draw
Three directions, drawn by hand and then on screen. We show them printed and at real size, never as a slideshow of mood boards.
- 03Weeks 5-7
Fold
The chosen route goes onto die-lines. We print, cut and fold mock-ups, put them on a real shelf and fix what looks wrong from two metres.
- 04Week 8
Hand over
Print-ready files, a guide your team can follow and a press check with your printer. We stay on WhatsApp for 60 days after.
Kitchens, shops and clinics we have drawn for
Eight of 41. Most found us on a shelf, not on a search page.
On the record
We enter two shows a year, only with work that sold. The jury does not pay the printer; the shelf does.

Three people, one long table
Garis Lipat means fold line. It is the dashed line on a die-line where flat card becomes a box, and it is how we work: we keep things flat and cheap until the fold, then we make it real.
We take six to eight clients a year. You talk to the person drawing your work, never an account manager.

Aina Kamal
Founder, packaging and print
Folded her first carton at 14 in her father's print shop in Ipoh. Still checks every press proof herself.
Ong Wei Jie
Identity and lettering
Draws every wordmark with a pencil before it goes near a screen. Keeps a drawer of 400 rejected logos.
Faris Rahmat
Websites and motion
Builds the sites, animates the marks and makes sure the order button works on a RM 600 phone.
Fees, said out loud
Fixed fees, agreed before we start. Half to begin, half at hand-over. Printing and SST are extra and passed on at cost.

Asked before you ask
Can you work with a small run of 500 jars?
Yes. Most of our packaging clients start under 2,000 units. We design for digital presses that print short runs well, then plan the switch to offset when volumes grow.
Do you print, or do we deal with the printer?
We brief your printer, check colour proofs and stand at the press for the first run. If you have no printer yet, we introduce you to three we trust in the Klang Valley and Penang.
How many rounds of changes do we get?
Two rounds at each stage, written into the quote. In practice the shelf test settles most arguments before a third round is ever needed.
Will you register the trademark for us?
We do a pre-check against the MyIPO database and flag clashes. Filing is done by your own agent or lawyer; we hand them clean artwork in the right formats.
We already have a logo. Can you just do the box?
Often, yes. We will look at the logo first and tell you honestly if it will survive a 4 cm label. If it needs a tidy-up, that is a small extra, not a new identity.
Do you work with clients outside KL?
About half our clients are outside the Klang Valley. We visit once at the start, then work over video calls and courier the printed mock-ups.
Tell us what you are making
Five questions, about four minutes. Aina reads every brief and replies within two working days, with a yes, a no or a better idea.
